True, backing a straight truck up will do nothing for you once you jump into a truck & trailer other than possibly learning how to manage a log book.Kyle G. Thanks this.

It would help with backing up a bobtail but that's probably about it

there is a big difference between sysco and coca cola.
as a milk delvery guy i encounter both at stops. Sysco i encoutner them at hospitals, nursing homes and schools.
Coca cola i encounter at stores and supermarkets.
Coca cola, you arent going to have a cushy trailer route ( supermarkets) most likely youll do stores where you have to stock the shelves, pick up expires/ damaged product, etc . youll either have a lift gate or side doors
Sysco, youll have a ramp most likely. deliver to the coolers, rotate stock ( from what i seen).. youll be jammed with pallets which you have to dismantle to then pick the orders for the stops.
but with a positive mindset you can work through both... id suggest sysco.. youll stay in shape
but as for your dilemma of having to wait.. things may change, coca cola is pretty strict on hiring, and depending on their need, sysco may be strict too -
If you can’t back up a bobtail truck I suggest you cut up your license and buy a bus pass.HiramKingWilliams Thanks this.

I can back up a box truck and a bobtail... No problem to do that...

Knowing how to back up a bobtail or a small box truck will teach you practically nothing about backing up a tractor trailer. Have you ever driven anything with air brakes? Is the bobtail you back up a 10sp? If you think learning how to backup a boxtruck will help you when you decide to learn how to operate a tractor trailer, you have another thing coming.N00bLaLoosh Thanks this.

What about going from small to big? Start out with a e350 or f350 or equivalent for a while then going to medium duty straight trucks then to a tractor trailer? Gives opportunities for being able to drive most delivery/commercial vehicles and having experience driving multiple sizes of trucks so you're experienced in quite a few things

No.homeskillet and HiramKingWilliams Thank this.

No. Driving a little e350 box truck will do nothing for you in the process of learning how to handle a tractor trailer or a box truck thats over 26k lbs. And you dont need experience driving small stuff first if thats what youre thinking. Employers arent going to turn you down from a truck driving job bc you dont have 2yrs exp driving an e350 around delivering little debbie snacks to corner stores lol. You need to stop finding excuses and just get your cdl already!!!homeskillet, N00bLaLoosh and Kyle G. Thank this.
