their safety rating is something that will affect me? thanks, but i wasnt aware. please enlighten me..

Well, for starters.
If a company has a substandard safety rating, it means more of their trucks and DRIVERS are inspected.
Need I go On ????Donnyh Thanks this. -
The companies with better safety ratings also get the better accounts that pay better rates so the drivers get better pay .
I haven't been to Safestat lately but I heard the public can no longer view a company's safety ratings there .Donnyh Thanks this. -

The Company that will do it the cheapest gets the account in most cases.
There are cases that a Company will show loyalty to a Company that has provided good service.
At the end of the day it usually comes down to cost not safety. It is unfortunate. -
There's that viscious circle again!

Another thing a co with a bad safety rating is more apt to try to force a driver to run junk equipment. That happened to me on a local gig I took.ampm wayne and jtrnr1951 Thank this.

This is true. A lot of times a Company starts neglecting equiptment, and employees. Sometimes it is do to lack of money. Safety, and maint. gets to become less important and just like NoTarps4Me said''They try to force you to drive junk"
