With St. Brendan's Isle, Green Cove Springs, FL you can get a legal address and if you want, change your drivers license to Florida. Not sure about changing the cdl though; you'll have to ask.

 

I’d go drive for the farmer. Very simple... common horse sense.... Big companies are void of that.

Does the farmer job have benefits and a pension plan?
OFC does. One driver told me he gets hourly pay from the time he leaves the terminal until he returns to the terminal; 24/7.

 

Here's how I look for driving jobs. Some may disagree with my approach and that's fine. To each their own. First of all I immediately block and flag as spam any contact from any recruiters/head hunters. If your company is actually worth working for then you don't need a team of recruiters or a big advertising budget to interrupt my YouTube viewing.
How I look for jobs is by first looking for the nicer trucks at the truck stop. What kind of truck do I want to drive? Are there any of those around? Then I will chat up the driver. I'm looking for a nice truck with a happy driver. Next I will visit the terminal. What I want to see is a line of those nice trucks. Hopefully I didn't just encounter their one high speed owner/operator. Next I want to see where the drivers park their cars. When people make good money they tend to buy nicer cars. Hopefully my BMW isn't alone there. Then with the outer recon complete I will go inside and say hi. How am I treated? Am I picking up on some sort of attitude? If all looks good I will inquire about their hiring requirements. Are they looking for months of experience (red flag) or years of experience good indicator as desirable workplaces can afford to be picky. Hopefully they don't seem too desperate to get me on-board. I'm okay with waiting on my background checks and drug tests to come back before being scheduled for an interview and/or driving test.

 

The farmer has a slight discount on med insurance - it would be over $800 per month! That's another huge deal for me, i'd have to get healt insurance through the marketplace, which is slightly cheaper with large deductibles - nah.

OFC does offer health insurance, and yes, hourly pay.

I see what you're saying, but some drivers are thrifty af, some are trying to live cheap to pay debts, save for their own truck etc, not all mind you, but some

 

You're right about cars. I could have driven a fancy BMW or something like that, but instead drove old used cars. That fancy car wears out and then nothing to show for it. Only people that are impressed are the owners of the cars.

True, then if the pay is great some will come from out of state to work and will buy a cheap used car to use while away from home working. So yes there's tolerance for a few not so nice cars but you're not going to have a whole fleet of high income earners all driving jalopy's.

 

If maintenance is a concern then lease. Just enjoy it for a couple of years while it's still under warranty then give it back and get something else. Plus if you're running hard and making good money then you're not putting a lot of miles on it. Unless you work a local job with a long commute. Some guys take pride in their cars others don't care and just want something to get them from A to B. Nothing wrong with either, to each their own. There should be a mix of both among the fleet. If there isn't at least a few decent vehicles in the parking lot that's a good indication that drivers aren't making money. If they're making money someone is going to have a nice car because why not? He has the money and can afford it. Maybe not you but a few of your coworkers.

 

I have 3 friends that lease cars and turn them in for another one at the end of the lease. One of them hooks his laptop to the car computer system and reprograms it to show only half the miles it actually runs. If he drives 100 miles, it shows he drove 50 miles. When he turns the car back in, he reprograms it as it's supposed to be.
They told me I should lease, but I don't. When I need a car I buy a rental car that's been turned in.
