After years without ac, i keep a vac pump guages and Freon under the bunk along with a spare clutch, last compressor and clutch was like $350 iirc, it’s trivial, and a write off, the real issues are what happens when you grenade a power divider clear across the country or loose the motor..
you never truely realize how much #### you can fit in these things until you have to clean it outfeldsforever Thanks this. -
Do you know what you want to haul?
Which region?
Terrain?
Offroad, pavement only, or mix?
Gross weight you will be loaded?
How much experience do you have?
Experience with what you plan to pull?
Can you spin your own ranches?
Do your own bookkeeping?feldsforever and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
I would say be prepared to pay between $10K -$25K for preventative maintenance and repairs in the first 12 months without blinking.feldsforever Thanks this.

Insurance costs
Yes, my own bookkeeping.feldsforever and Pamela1990 Thank this. -
Assuming your starting your own authority get ready for expensive insurance. Easily can top $2k monthly. I recommend buying an older truck without DEF and put additional funds to get it sound mechanically. You will save money, staying out the dealerships and older trucks are alot easier to work on if your mechanically inclined.
feldsforever Thanks this.
