Best mpg I ever saw was 8.2 and that was bobtailing from the assembly plant in Denton, TX to home in Florida. I ran it 68-70 mph mostly on cruise..just chilling in my new ride.
Once I hooked up to my dry van the mpg went out the window..didn’t matter if I was loaded or empty. The 280” wheel base just left too much space between the cab & trailer.
If I really wanted to slow down and give up most of my idling I could probably get 6 out of it..but that’s not going to happen
I’m also going by my quarterly ifta reports and not just throwing a nice number that I got on trip with the wind at my back. For me running the 48 mostly with my foot in it I avg 5.
I am guilty of running 80-85 mph to![]()
Should i sell my brand new 389

You know you might as well go full cool and rebuild you a 359.shooter19802003 Thanks this.

There come a point when time and comfort outrank fuel mileage right? That's what I tell myself at least.LightninMcQueen001, BoostedTeg, Gsm and 2 others Thank this.

Your not rebuilding anything with those profits. Apparently you haven't seen what 379 are going for....let alone plus rebuild cost. I was offered $70k for mine as is.

I have a 2016 579 too thats paid offVampire and shooter19802003 Thank this.

Mine is 280wb. My last ifta is 5.9. That's because I live in Idaho. So Wyoming, wind and mountains kills my mpg. However, I run in the Midwest until I go home. So while I'm out...I get around 7. I also pull flat. Don't know anything about door swinging.
Edit: I don't drive fast. Set my cruise at 67 or so. -
That’s what I tell myself also! Problem is I got this other voice in my head that keeps telling me that I’m an idiot

Fact is after driving a long wheel base hood for awhile I can’t bring myself to get back in a euro plastic truck. Luckily I’m old and money isn’t the only reason I drive.TheLoadOut, Oxbow, Rubber duck kw and 2 others Thank this. -
I run your areas all the time, normally 2 figure 8’s around the country every month. Sounds like we’re close in mpg truck wise and I’m just a lead foot.shooter19802003 Thanks this.

I have my share of heavy foot events. I will get pissed and push down the pedal. I hate uphill truck races....makes me mad. However, just cruising around, I keep it under 70 all the time.
All I'm saying is, there is more to mpg than truck and engine. Your foot has alot to do with it.Concorde Thanks this. -
Take the money and run. These crazy prices won’t be around forever.
shooter19802003 and Rubber duck kw Thank this. -
If you guys want pre-emissions truck to rebuild, I know where there are Pete’s KW’s, IH, Freightliner all pre-emissions. Most were parked due to engine issues. Either injectors, or coolant dropped into the crankcase.
Some are tractor sleepers, some daycabs, with fuel tanks on straight truck frame.Geronimo17 and LightninMcQueen001 Thank this.
