I just find it disheartening that they can do this and get away with it.... There must be something that protects us from criminals like this, there has to be

I think it is important that you know their base of operation. every one knows some unsavory characters that need money for small easy task orders. if ya know what I mean. hypothetical only. of course.

Hi I just joined but started trucking back in 81. and due to the economy and what it did to my career I may be getting back in. I won't tell you what you should do but will tell you what I have done once in the past with a similar situation, take this with a grain of salt. I let them [my company] think everything was cool and forgiven and we could work it all out, I got dispatched with another load but instead of delivering the load to the consignee, I took the load to a warehouse and placed it in storage under my name, now it helps to have a friend who owns a warehouse but this may be doable otherwise as well. I then wrote a claim letter and had it delivered to them via courier on the same day, needless to say they were highly agitated as this was one of their best customers and they did not want to explain what happened to their freight. I was owed about 5k and my claim letter also stated there was a $100 a day storage fee and a $500 unloading and loading fee. if I remember correctly they threatened me with all kinds of BS including the FBI, DOT etc. bottom line was they wanted their load and I wanted my money. within one day they had a driver with a company rep at the warehouse with CASH for all monies owed including the 1000 bucks for the warehouse. I had the warehouse [my friend] handle the transaction, they left with their load and my friend wouldn't even keep the extra $1000 bucks and gave it to me as well. VERY HAPPY ENDING now things could turn out differently for you nowadays but back then I was a ####y individual with the balls to pull this off, now I am older and maybe wiser and probably would not find myself in this situation. but if their gonna mess with your money maybe you should mess with theirs just my 2 cents good luck

It is really sad to see companies doing this to people who work really hard for their money. I am surprised they can get away with this especially when they are trusting their loads to the drivers. In this economy everyone needs to be paid on time and there is no room for delayed pay checks.

I guess they don't care, but it sucks for the drivers who need the money to survive. The drivers are the ones practically killing themselves to make a good living and then the broker wants to hold payment or whatever.

I do know of 2 drivers who got burned by a broker, years ago. maybe 12... one driver waited a year or so & took another load under this same broker. the broker, did not recognize the person was who he burned a while back. after getting the steel coil loaded, he truck to a friends shop. the shop mgr, told the broker he was holding truck & trailer for repairs & storage. it just so happens that the total price for repairs & storage, was the same that was owed to the driver. I think you get the pic.

Well I am here today with some great news!!! Out of all the attorneys I have spoke with one who just called me back the other day took my case and works on contingency. He has filed a law suit against the company and the owner personally, I wish I could see the look on his face when he gets served!

At one point I even told the owners I would settle for half the amount they owe me, and still refused to hand over a check.

I asked him how does he sleep at night knowingly screwing hard working people out of their money, his response was "great"... I will be sure to ask him how he is sleeping now =)
