Company keeps assigning me loads that won’t quite work?

At this point I’m not sure if it’s an annoying tactic or just incompetence. I keep getting assigned these loads, usually back loads to the yard when you look at them at a first glance you think “oh that’ll be OK“ but then when you do the math and run the reality of the route it just won’t quite work out.
Example, last load I was on, I had a delivery window of 6am to 12 noon. I looked up online and read the reviews and they’re pretty quick about unloading but will never unload you before 6 AM in the morning. My plan was to arrive there early evening the day before and do my break and pull in at 6 AM and get unloaded. Dispatch sends my backhaul, it’s 230 miles away with a solid appointment time of 09:30. Noway I can make that. I have to call dispatch and listen to the huffing and puffing and sighing as I tell them that they have to change the appointment time. Now keep in mind this is a perfect back load too. I want the #### load. What do they do? They just take me off it. Rather than just schedule it for a couple hours later. This is happening on every other backload. Loads that are off by an hour or two from working.

How would you handle this? I’ve been close to making smart Alec comments like “is someone smoking crack again today?“ But so far I’ve refrained myself. But I’m getting tired of people not able to do simple math and figure out that a load won’t work and then getting disgusted with me when I have to call them out on it. It’s almost like they want me to shut my mouth and just be late. Not happening. If you screw up I’ll call you out on it 100 times in a row. Lol

It was probably just a situation where you are the closest truck to the pickup. They knew it wouldn’t work when they gave it to you. You obviously left your time machine at home!

Do they know your truck doesn’t come with the latest and greatest flux capacitor? Or even the baseline jet engine package?

my last company had a lot of broker loads for back hauls and they did this all the time.

My comments were along the lines of, " well ,you know that ain't gonna work. want to reschedule now or after I pick it up." they would report me for smart "assedness". but, I never let them make me do service failure.

if it won't work , say so. loudly and often.

Not our fault if they can not plan things correctly.

Yesterday I got a pplan that was picking up late but they expected me to get it there on time.
No way could I make that delivery time, so I countered with times I could/would do.
Several hours later the same planner sent the pplan again saying a late pickup was fine, but could I deliver it?
I called her 5 minutes later but she was not there.
So I countered again with the same times I used before.
She never called me back, and the pplan was finally removed from me.

Now I've got 2 loads that I like much more.

It seems like the sales people book every load they can and then just hope the planners can keep up with it all.
Then it comes down to the planners and drivers fighting things out between not enough drivers in the area and the impossible times the loads were set to.

Oh the times I’ve bit my tongue when dealing with an incompetent dispatcher!

    Just feel like saying..

Time for you to stop talking and listen. Ok, now clearly Mr.Dispatcher you’re not even 1/10th as good at your job as I am at mine so here’s what’s gonna happen…

"This is when I'm picking up. This is when I can deliver."

    #Sigh#, says dispatch.

"Well, if you can do better, the keys are in it! Where shall I bring it to you?"

You are screwing yourself by starting your clock on an unload instead of ending it on the unload.

Sounds like how that company likes to operate. It's way more efficient and easier to plan out. Maybe adjust your driving for a month and compare miles?

i wouldnt stress out too much. just give them your eta and let them figure it out. ill gladly sit and play on my phone for 3 hours bc dispatch never wants to listen, more money in my pocket...
(unless its friday, ill leave empty and dead head 180 miles to park the truck. they get 50 hours of my time a week, be ###### if i give them anything more)
