Looking for a good 12 volt thermoelectric cooler. My Coleman just took a crap on me after only a few months. Are Koolatron coolers any good? I see them at truck stops all over the place. Dick's Sporting Goods has a really good deal on them. I wish I could afford one of the 12 volt OEM fridges for my Freightshaker, but that ain't happening anytime soon. Anyway, any advice would be appreciated. Really hate the idea of having to ice down a regular cooler every other day. Lol. Thanks folks.

I had a koolatron that lasted about 4 yrs, the motor was still good but the rubber seal wore out and fell off so it wouldn't stay cool and longer.

Depending whats wrong with the coleman it can be fixed.
I had a problem with mine, the fan on top went out and it got warm.
I replaced the fan with a Hard drive fan unit as these are 12v from ebay.
It has double fans in it and the coleman is now much cooler too.
Think I paid a $1 for the fan. -
I bought a Koolatron last August and I really like it. It didn't work very well when I was in Phoenix last September and my A/C ws broken, but I don't think any cooler would have worked well then. Now it's winter time I have on occasion woken up to find items inside frozen. The only drawback I've found is that it drains my batteries a little faster than other coolers I've had, but I guess I should expect a cooler that works better to draw more power.

May want to purchase the one that has replacement parts available, like fan motor, at truck stops !!!

My Coleman did the same thing, and I replaced the top fan with an old PC 12v fan I had in my junk box, worked fine ever since. I think if I had to do it over, I would look at a cheap 120v unit like WalMart sells and run it off my inverter. It would probably be less of a constant drag on the batteries.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'm trying what SLCTrucker suggested and using a computer fan to replace the one that is bad on my cooler. I'm sure I'll eventually buy a better quality cooler altogether, unless this ends up working out well for me.
