Just wondering since you have experience as a O/o with other companies such as Canada Cartage & Challenger (not sure what they pay regarding cpm.?) Only to assume it's around $1.60/cpm to $1.90/cpm. Why not run on your own Authority with the Load boards in order or Maximize your money? My plans are purchasing a Truck by June 2022 but I can't see myself working as a O/o with a dispatcher directing me here and there for the mile. Control on my daily and weekly routes seem more rewarding in the long run.
My truck is coming, any suggestions for the first company to start with?

Because the problem becomes #1) Insurance Costs #2) Getting Paid #3) Getting Undercut #4) Fuel Cost/Volumes/Discount #5) Having to be in "compliance" with everything a big company does, but its all on you.
I tried it both ways, and I always made more at the end of the day, leased on or working for an authority doing ABL.
Yes dispatchers and planners can be a problem, so you need to be somewhere you have a solid relationship with, and there is mutual respect. (a tall order).
I'm not saying your own show is a bad idea, just be prepared for a ton of work, a ton of chasing money, and a ton of fronting costs (esp fuel).
I never got to try Landstar, but from the outside, that looks like the best of both worlds to me.Mikeli Thanks this. -
Thanks, totally agree with u. The truck I ordered was almost 200k, and I’m lucky that I ordered earlier, the price went up again becoz of the availability and our dollar keeps going down. With that kinda money, I have to work with a right company.

Thanks in advance bro, I will have questions coming for sure

I ordered a paccar engine, 1850 lb-ft torque, 510 hp, heavy duty transfer case, 3’35 gear ratio( that’s something I fked up, should go with 3.05) total price was 198,000. But that was about 4 months ago, the price went up again lately becoz of availability and our dollar went down. I haven’t talked with them about the extended warranty yet.

Stick with where you are for the time being. You have a good idea how things are done with challenger. You have enough of a learning curve a head of you becoming a o/o, no sense in compounding it by switching companies also. Once you feel you have a good handle on running a BUSINESS not just running a truck then consider moving on if you want to.. hopefully your new adventure works out!!

Thanks for the advice bro. My finally goal is to have my own authorities. But to get there, I still need to learn a lot. Happy holidays

Extended warranty is in two parts. Chassis side needs to be purchased at time of purchase of truck. Engine/emissions you have one year from in service date. For both you’ll be more than $18000 cdn. I bought mx13 455 1650. Warranty for the 500/1850 I heard was quite a bit more.Mikeli Thanks this.

Thanks for the info, It's my first truck, do u think are they worth buying?
-
Absolutely……can’t own an emissions truck without it. Remember, buy both. There’s two sides to emissions wiring harness. Chassis side and emissions side. If the failure is on chassis side, but it’s causing the covered emissions failure, it won’t be warranty unless you purchase the chassis side warranty. Computers as well. There are ecms or epu’s or whatever you wanna call them, that are chassis side, but interact with engine emissions computer. Hell, even the temp sensor in the mirror, that everyone thinks just gives info for temp on dash, controls def system.Canadianhauler21, Mikeli and BigHossVolvo Thank this.
