I crossed over today 1/1/22 at Fort Erie after handing over my aci and fast card and the standard questions, agent says he cannot see my vaxx status in the system--i uploaded not vaxxed back in November. I showed him my receipt with that code thing on it for proof. He says that's fine but, beginning Jan 15, status has to be shown in their system otherwise they will turn away all US drivers and send Canadian drivers to public health where they have to provide proof or they will be fined. I asked if they would be tested, he didn't know--all he knew was drivers will be fined.
He asked if I was vaxxed, I said no and I'm not going to be crossing anymore. I said I think things are going to get very slow for you guys. He gave me a look of agreement and said, while pointing to his CBSA Crest "I can't say too much, but coercing people into taking it is not the way to go about it."
We spoke further for about 10 minutes--he was the only booth open, and there were no other trucks waiting--he went on to mention how our individual freedoms were being eroded, now almost by the day, etc. etc. We bantered on and I was on my way.
This was the second agent who felt this way, coincidentally both at Fort Erie. The first, a woman, was not as vocal as this agent, who btw appeared to be from South America, but she gave the same vibes as the agent I spoke with today.
