What if it Snows?

That is my question, driving carefully in snow and ice conditions. This is my big fear, having the trailer “jackknife” on me. Maybe my training was done in the summer where there is no snow or ice and then later I am confronted with it.

Really it would be more dangerous in the South since there the roads aren’t cleared off as well as say, Minnesota or Michigan, not to mention that the South gets ice more than snow which is more treacherous. That’s a big fear of mine.

 

If in doubt, throttle it out.

Just don’t ever panic and slam on the brakes, Most of the accidents I see are from people doing that. Can’t steer when front brakes are locked up. Especially down south. It’s a natural response to slam on the brakes. To let off and steer out of a slide is almost against instinct, but is the only chance you have. Keeping that in mind, keep a safe distance, and don’t hesitate to park it if you feel it’s unsafe. Sometimes it’s best, no matter how much experience you have. Others don’t. The Trucks not going to suddenly jackknife by itself. Slamming on the brakes, in a curve, or while jerking the wheel to avoid something, Sliding, etc. There’s always a cause. Just be easy on the throttle and easy on the brake. Extra careful on bridges, and ramps. Slow down, shut down if needed. Nothing wrong with a good healthy fear. When it goes away, it’s time to be extra careful. Lol.
