Chain Pay?

Ask anybody who runs up there its just part of the job... u will hear guys saying on the radio they don't chain up but that can't be the mentality running the northwest or u will be out of a job... make ur life easier if ur just running highway miles get a set of cables. Much easier to sling around. But aren't as sturdy as chains if u abuse them.. Also dont have the same bite that chains do but if ur just running highway it will be fine. ... I ran nothing but western Montana to Eastern Washington last 2 years, chained up on every mountain pass there is out there.. Empty, loaded, u name it.... got a set of cables last year to experiment with and they held up well, got about 30+ uses out of them currently with no damage whatsoever... my only complaint is I've lost some hardware off the cables but easily replaced with s hooks from my bungees and good to go again..even took them off-road a couple times... quality chain Corp is the go to place for any chains u need.

 

Chains are for connecting your wallet to a belt loop.

 

When I have to chain i go on the hourly clock until chains are removed.. NO way would I be one of these clowns working free cheapening the profession. Company wants free labor they can recruit volunteers

 

I have questions:

The chain gang…are they Stevens employees drivers or do they drive for someone else?

If they are Stevens, how much does the average chain gang driver make and how many miles does he run ANNUALLY vs the average “ park and wait to be rescued” driver?

Is Stevens self insured?

 

Of course. Just because you are content to get used by the company and give your labor away for free doesn't mean everyone is.
And to make it clear, yes I do get paid to fuel.
That's the whole point of the thread. Too many people are too used to getting screwed by the company they are in shock when others refuse to.

 

Do you think you should get paid extra for doing a pre-trip or paid to refuel your truck?

Companies get paid to run chains. They factor that into a load just like if you need to tarp or wash out a trailer. If you are an O/O and you’re running your equipment for free, driving slower and adding extra wear and tear to your truck and not charging for it then you must be one of the ones wearing your Track pants and flip flops running for pennies. If you like doing work for free I commend you for it but it’s not for me.
