When you have an inframe...does anyone consider the drive train?

The engine isn't the only thing that has a million miles on it....

Arrow has plenty of rigs....there you go.....

    No thanks....

I have driven some trucks as old as I was...

Put it this way....You're in the middle of eastern WY on one of those "Two-laners"...do you really want to take a chance? Especially right now.....It would be....."Sorry....see you after the thaw..."....

Is it wise to replace the connecting rods when doing an inframe?

I'd rather take a chance in the middle of nowhere with my old well maintained MECHANICAL engined truck than on a new electronic wonder if thats where you are going:biggrin_25515:

Nobody does. That's why I hate high mileage trucks, just a money pit. Trans, diffs, bearings, bushings, steering, mounts, interior, paint and on and on and on.
I'll buy the lower mileage truck. Had to laugh a guy here bought a new 379 in '06. Drove it a year and sold it for an older truck for "better fuel mileage". Had the older truck for about a month before it needed an overhaul. Next year he replaced the differentials. Add up the cost of parts/labor + downtime......Gonna take a long time to make that money back in fuel mileage. Wouldn't be funny but the guy is a prick and I know the previous owner. He was glad to see it go, really nice 379 but he knew it was going to start costing money.

So what is the best cost of ownership window from a mileage or model year stand point? I realize there are countless variables & ultimately you have to match what fits your business plan or budget.

Been looking for quite a while & missed a few deals in hindsight, but what has me thrown for a loop is my budget is right around where emissions were in their first phase. So '05 Acerts, EGR Cummins/Volvo & as mentioned elsewhere a friend of mines '05 14L Detroit was in the shop quite a bit.

I like the possibilities w/the MBN CATs(from what I have read), but a majority of those are pushing into the mid-upper 700's on miles. Just seems like you can't win for losing!:biggrin_25521:

the best you thing you can do is preventive maintenance on older trucks. if you don't have service records for work that's been done, then plan to replace parts routinely.u don't want to wait til something breaks to fix it.

    LBZ Thanks this.

i know everyone would love to buy a new truck and trade it in every 500k mile, but dreams are just that.if you can buy a truck off the original owner or get a good used unit w/ all service records you're 2 steps ahead of the game.the used truck market is just like cars, you trade, you lose.i don't see you getting that far ahead by trading up all the time and only increasing your truck payment.
