I'd take piece work all day long on a pin to pin job. Its work for nothing at the shipper\ receiver that I have a problem with.
Also have a problem on piece work when the carrier tells me I can only only make so many pieces such as limiters and cut back trucks, fuel bonuses and such.

That’s were I’m at. I have a limited truck but it’s faster than typical. I get paid good accessory pay as well including loading/unloading. Wouldn’t change the pay structure for hourly. I’d quit first. I’m sure hourly works great for some driving jobs but for OTR forget it. If the pay sucks get a better company.

Not at my company, they don't.BeHereNow97 Thanks this.

There could be a place for percentage based pay for peddle hands in the LTL business.
At least then the lazy ones would starve themselves out like they deserve to.BeHereNow97, Bret1984, dwells40 and 1 other person Thank this. -
It’s not realistic that we are paid exactly what we’re worth to the company. That’s giving the White Collars some kind of God-like power they don’t possess.
I think it’s more accurate to say that there are a lot of people in trucking who have low self esteem and will work for whatever someone pays them. In this life, you get what you tolerate, and what you tolerate is what you deserve.scott180, RussianBearTruckeR, Bret1984 and 2 others Thank this. -
If you had invested in growth stocks for the past ten years you'd be on that beach now.

As bad as CA sucks. They got something right. If you have a CA address and are a company driver you get paid for all on duty time. So if you are sitting waiting to get loaded unloaded you get paid. Wish it was that way when I was a company driver
Switcher, dwells40 and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this. -
The S&P 500 has averaged an annual return of around 14% over the last 10 years which is around 11% when adjusted for inflation. So unless you're investing a very significant amount each month or have a very large starting capital you're probably falling short of the amount needed to retire comfortably. Unless you are suggesting that I should have had a crystal ball and known which specific stocks were going to really take off in which case wouldn't it have been better to buy crypto over the last 10 years and own my own private island lol or maybe if I could have predicted that little Chinese EV startup NIO was going to 800X in 2020 I'd have bought a lot more shares. Anyhow, it's a marathon not a sprint and you're still here so what have you been doing the last 10 years? I'm guessing you are also still a bit short of the 7 figure portfolio value needed to retire.Last edited: Jan 15, 2022
HiramKingWilliams and dwells40 Thank this. -
My last OTR job paid me 0.60 cents per mile. Shop around and see how many companies will offer you that much with a W2. Most jobs offering that much are 1099 so I was pretty darn lucky to land that gig. Plus with a 70mph truck to boot. None the less the 3 to 5 hours to get loaded/unloaded was a thing as was traffic and a hesitancy to want to run my clock out do to fears of not being able to find parking after a certain time remained a thing and I averaged between $1,500 and $1,800 a week. Now I'm in the oilfield get paid % of the load and would be very upset if I only had an $1,800 week which I'm on track for this week do to the long hours in the staging areas lately. Hopefully things pick back up again soon or they start paying detention otherwise I'm going to be looking for another job.scott180, BlueThunderr and Switcher Thank this.

How many hours are you working in the oil field?
