I remember graduating from truck school 10/74. A little black girl in a C & H Cab Over drove up to the building; (maybe 4'10' tall) and climbed down the steps. She had a flat bed of heavy iron plumbing.Women were unheard of truck driver's, then. Chauffeurs license, no CDL crap;( meaning all you needed was your regular driver's license.) (Or several of them). Deregulation was a gradual death sentence for o/o's. Motor 100% power; big company's will set max power @ 2/3; put on 800,000 miles; turn it up to full power! Beware .Not many o/o's left. Uncle Sam has taken all the life of true enjoyable trucking. No more Log Books (2 or 3) to get the product to the docks, then rest. Now, a supply chain? Nothing but Swift, Schneider, Hunt, more. In fact i heard these compliant indentured servant company's have on board cameras now watching you! Sure do hope you don't have to use your Gatorade bottle! Too much more to talk about, but i always wanted to work for C & H Transfer from the very beginning.Rideandrepair, dwells40 and Speed_Drums Thank this.

This used to be a popular thread. It would have been 5 years for Boywonder and his new truck now.
I remember I started working the spot market at about the same time too. Boywonder always had those rates I could not attain myself, thinking how come I can't get that high rates - even though he more often complained about them than was content. The rates in January 2017 sucked big time. I remember going to Columbus from Chicago for $800 or Atlanta, GA $1300, or Denver TX $1700 thinking it was not that bad at all. I did not know any better. SMH
This thread proves that there is only so much you can do to overcome what the market has to offer. At the same time, if you are persistent and patient, you'll be given a carrot instead of a stick, every now and then.
Let's see, out of the 20 quarters, we've had: 1 in 2017, 3 in 2018, and the most recent 6 were good enough that only a few would complain. Pretty much half of that period was good, the other half was not too good.Bean Jr., Speed_Drums, dwells40 and 3 others Thank this. -
I loved this thread when it was started. I was in my final stages of figuring out what I wanted to do and changed my mind to go into dry van. Some of it was because of the info he provided. It also gave me a good starting point to neg. with brokers when I started.
Bean Jr., Speed_Drums, Midwest Trucker and 2 others Thank this.
