A good pair of work boots used to cost me about three day's wages. A new pickup cost about six month's pay. They still do. We're just playing with bigger numbers.

I agree. Don't get me wrong. I'm super grateful to earn what I do, especially considering my lack of a college degree and the fact that I make more than many of those who do have one.
