You need to get as many prehires as possible. They mean little to nothing. Do an online application with Werner and call them the next day. They will have you approved or not. Ask them all the questions you want.
If you are in school they will fax a prehire to you. Like I said, it means nothing!

When I was talking to them they asked if I had it. No mention of extra pay. It was $82 for the back ground check. Ask if they'll pay for it. The WIA paid for mine. Take your test. In TN depending on which agency you go to some want you to have your CDL before you can take the test.
30 questions. Your school might have a study guide. Mine did. Also read your state manual and practice the test questions. I missed 3 out of 30. One I knew and they just worded it tricky.
They didn't ask if I had a pass port. -
Thanks, I'm not sure how many agencies will hire you right out of school that are any good. I know that they are all training/starter companies but I'm hoping that maybe I'll enjoy working there and will stay there. Werner seems like a pretty good company and their terminal is close to the house. As far as hazmat my school is training me to pass it but it's up to me if I want to get it or not. I guess I'm going to. If you know any other good companies that accept students let me know and I'll check on them as well. I appreciate everyones info.

whatever you do, do NOT pay for the TSA background check. It's around $100 and is required to get the endorsement. The reason i say this is since you are a student, any company that will require hazmat will tell you that they'll give you 60 days to get it. Usually, they'll pay for the endorsement and background check as well.
but if its somehow included in your school's bill, then go for it.
Its EASY to pass the test. Its easy to pass the background check if you're not a terrorist!
Rug is right too.

The lady adding my Hazmat asked "are you a terrorist?" I said, "yes! Dominoes wasn't hiring! Besides, Dominoes doesn't offer 75 virgins. Only problem I have is if I use an underwear bomb, I won't have anything to play with the virgins with!"

Took my HazMat test on Thursday. Thought that I would have to take it 2-3 times to pass it. Passed it on the first try. Only missed 3. Mis-read the question. Resaon why I got the endorsement is because I believe that it would open up more load opportunities for me. Now, just waiting for my new birth certificate so that I can apply for my pass port which will open even more loads.

LOL. Thats one way to answer a stupid question like that. Um, yes, I'm a terrorist so I need this HAZMAT to go blow something up. Why do they ask such stupid questions?
Anyway, I hope I can pass the test when I get it. I heard that they have some tricky questions on there. -
haha, i never got asked that but i do remember this: You call the TSA hotline to tell them who you are and give all your info and find out where to go for prints. When i went in for prints, it was an empty office in a big office building, sticky note on the door "IBT". two guys and a laptop. and thats only because one was in training...

Everytime I got to the DMV I have so much fun with the girls there! We cut up and laugh! Believe me we were just laughing and joking! When I am there and they are dealing with idiots I make them smile. My favorite thing to tell them is that the Florida DMV workers have the power of arrest. They laugh and fantacize about carrying a gun.

Well, I have a question for anyone who can answer it. I've asked this question in another forum but never got a response and was wondering if any of you could give me some advice. I have a friend that is a owner-op and is willing to help me if and when I need it. I purchased a 1998 Freightliner Century about 2 months ago and was hoping to lease on with a company. I already know that CRST will lease the truck on with them because that is where it was originally leased on to with. I'm just wondering if its worth it or not. Like, should I work for a company instead of doing owner-op. The truck is owned free and clear. Runs good and has a 500 cat in it along with a 10sp.
