If you don't believe nonunion companies push rates lower because they can push the drivers harder and earn less in the process I couldn't convince you the sky is blue.
I hope teamsters come back strong, if you want to complain about middle man start with the brokers.

They negotiate rates and cut each other's throats to get contacts because most don't own trucks or have any skin in the game. Fuel prices can rise 30% and it has no effect on their bottom line .Ziggy319 Thanks this.

Reasonable brokers will give more. If they are unreasonable they won’t. It’s a great way for You to see who cares about the transporters long term stability.

I remember a few years ago talking to someone from a major carrier prior to full implementation of electronic logs. She said rates would have to increase 25% just to stay even and rates are probably down atleast that amount since then.

Like a lot of things the pension doesn’t have a simple easy explanation. A combination of mismanagement, shrinking membership, and retirees living much longer than original projections. I am one who had their pension cut by 50%. Fortunately I saved enough and planned for retirement so it had minimal effect on me. It’s cruel medicine for those who either couldn’t or didn’t have the ability to save outside of pension. Also think, and this won’t be popular, that people should not be able to retire and draw pensions in their 50’s. Today people can draw a pension longer than they worked and paid in. Not sustainable.
