Nothing I know of. Just something you keep in the shop for them jobs. Comes in handy. Cheap turkey deep fryer and propane would work well too. I've complemented that once. Slow and steady heat is what you want. Heating or cooling bearing, races, gears is pretty standard procedure.
Just like deep frying, don't over fill it.

Sheered key really makes me wonder! Compressor failure?shooter19802003 and Don379 Thank this.

I'm stretching here cause I only used it once. But they have thermocromatic tape. It changes color with heat. I think it was used pulling front bull gear on DT466E motors. You put tape on and heat gear. When it changed color, then you started pulling.
That was 20-21 years ago. Only time, and only shop that I used it.shooter19802003 and Don379 Thank this. -
I wouldn't heat it cherry. Changes the molecular structure of the steel.
shooter19802003, Don379 and BoxCarKidd Thank this. -
Can carry from gear to shaft and crystalize shaft to my understanding. Looks good, breaks later.

a cheap toaster oven works well for heating gears and just the right size . I used one for heating a dt466 harmonic balancer a few times , even if the door to the toaster oven doesn't close all the way, it heats gears or whatever gradually

Laser temp gun should work well to check the temp. of the gear.
Don379, Goodysnap and BoxCarKidd Thank this. -
An hour of constant heat will not hurt anything. Put the gear on the shaft quickly. I thank at around 600 degrees F something starts changing in steel. Tempering starts to be affected.Don379 Thanks this.

All great ideas. Dry ice the shaft? Probably overkill but any and all temp variance between the parts will aid in installation.
I started putting hub bearing cups on dry ice. They fall right in warm hub like butter. MX main bearings go in frozen too.Flint1, pushbroom, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this. -
WAs thinking of using oil and camping stove to heat gear. But then i was thinking of putting propane cooking grill next to truck and heat gear that way so i can just pull it out and slap it on.
This gear isnt small. it is 10" and cat says to heat gear at 570 degrees for 30 minutes.
You can get grill up to 600 degrees as long as you keep lid closed.
Any reason no one mentioned a grill?
