If you are a student? How did you pass a DOT drug screen?

I've never taken Vicodin. I was on 3 different meds 5 years ago for pain. One was an anti convulsant (reported to work on nerve pain, never had convulsions! LOL!) The other was anantidepressant (I wasn't depressed) I was also on Avinsa. Avinsa is a time release morphine. I was taking 5-10mg a day.

The anticonvulsant has been known to cause people to be suicidal. It didn't help with the pain. I got off it.

The antidepressant didn't help either. It did make me forget where I was driving. I quit taking it and told the doctor why.

Avinsa helped. When I moved out of state my doctor prescibed extra, he upped the dosage to give me time to find another doctor. I stayed with the usual light dose. I had a problem with constipation from them.

I started tapering off on my own. Broke the pills in half and skipped days. I had flu like symtoms for a few days but got off them.

IMO you need to find a different way to remediate your pain. If you have so much pain how do you expect to take the beating that the trucking biz can put on you?

He guarantees if he didn't think he could drive, he wouldn't. That's what all the drunks say when they stagger out of the bar at 205 AM. And I'm sure the wrong way driver in NY said the same thing when she wiped out 7 people a few months back.

You can also be sure if he does have a wreck that the meds will be in question.

For a companys insurance, a liability like that is hard to overlook and even if your not at fault, just like they blame drunks for the accident your med use would be in question, even if you believe it was not a problem. Not saying you gonna have a accident but the what if is there.

Personally I think the company is making the right choice here for safety.
We are talking a powerful drug.

Well I have passed 2 seperate DOT physicals with the medications. I have the required documents that my company asked for. I am no longer on safety hold. Thanks for all the help, and encouragement. Military wouldn't take me because of my knee injury, in fact I tried all the branches of service to no success. If its going to be an issue i'm sure the csa 2010 will have some way to get rid of me soon. I don't drink, and never used illegal drugs. I'm sure non of that matters to you. I am likeing the idea more and more of just going on social security and welfare and what ever else I can find for public assistance just so I can sit on my ### all day and have you all pay for it... Sounds better and better after each post.

Well I guess in this situation maybe being on welfare would be better than worrying about meeting you coming the other way on a 2 lane road. No matter how you personally think you feel, narcotics at detectable levels in your blood stream have an effect, which is why they are prescribed, and say NOT to drive, operate machinery, etc.

Just looked at the bottles, they say "this medication may cause drowsiness, use care when operating a car or heavy machinery." Still no where does it say not to drive.
    also...

(12)(i) Does not use a controlled substance identified in 21 CFR 1308.11 Schedule I, an amphetamine, a narcotic, or any other habit-forming drug.

(ii) Exception. A driver may use such a substance or drug, if the substance or drug is prescribed by a licensed medical practitioner who: (A) Is familiar with the driver's medical history and assigned duties; and (B) Has advised the driver that the prescribed substance or drug will not adversely affect the driver's ability to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle; and (13) Has no current clinical diagnosis of alcoholism.

Nobody said anything about being "stoned". Please reread my post and do not assume. What do you think will happen if you're in an accident when there's a fatality and you test positive for opiates? If you want to go on and keep taking them just be prepared for the worse consequences. And if you believe that your manager will stand up for you then you have alot to learn. But then again maybe the state penal system might give you a new knee. Now go ahead and argue somemore with every post you don't want to hear. I'm done.

I'd like to see this guy find a doctor that will stand up and say that an opiate is safe to use while driving a truck. Obliviously this guy is an know-it-all and no matter what any driver says he'll argue. Hopefully he'll get caught with these opiates in his system and he'll be off the road for good.

How did you pass the DOT drug test? I had to get one before I could register for my class.
