Hey all!
I got my CDL permit last week in California and I'm hoping that will grandfather me in to not having to take a course for my CDL, no idea. Anyways, I'm looking for best advice to get some driving experience before taking the skills test. Also thinking of just buying a truck and trailer to practice with. Appreciate all info you can provide.

Analog and Wasted Thyme Thank this. -
Well, you can't drive a truck and tractor on public roads without a licensed driver in the passenger seat.Analog Thanks this.

Not if he got his permit last week as he said. But, unless you know someone with a truck willing to train you, it would be hard to get the needed experience without going to a school.
-
Not really. As long as he got a CLP before Monday, he has as long as the permit is good for to test without needing the schooling.

######! This is what I was looking for. I knew the law went into effect yesterday but I wasn't sure on the technicality so I scrambled last week to study and take the test Friday. It was scary because the DMV statewide system went down Friday afternoon and I didn't think I was gonna make it. Nothing like waiting til the last minute!ZVar Thanks this.

Thank you, I'll look into this. I am really trying to find something during the evening or on the weekend as I currently have a decent paying job. But if I have to jump ship and take a chance I probably will.Chinatown Thanks this.

Google search cdl schools in your area, then look at each website for part-time studies.
CDL schools will be private schools, community college schools, technical schools.
