What's your opinion on adding second truck in regards to driver pay? Thinking of maybe buying a second truck and putting a driver in it. 260 per day 1300 a week home every other day off weekends? I can also do free health ins to the driver. With a extra 100 extra on pay day for making on time pick up and drop offs an not screwing truck/trailer up. Been tossing idea around and not sure. I could do both flatbed or van. Any thoughts?? An yes I know the extra work/stress/expense. So just in regards to pay.
How much to pay?

Where in KY are you? What is the truck set at? What if I want to leave on Monday AM and come back Friday, can you do that? I am doing 4K miles per week now. So the pay is a little light, but the miles won't be the same either sooooo.
After further thought it is light for me. Know looking at 3000 miles per week so it the very least, $1500 per week of not more. -
For me the day/weekly pay is not enough to keep me as driver. But the health ins and home time would make me consider it. Only problem is if local companies can offer home nightly and more money you'll keep losing drivers.
My no experience as a OO advice is to think about how long that truck will sit when you need to replace a driver. Figure out how much that will cost you. Through that amount at the compensation package. Find a reliable driver and make it undesirable for them to ever quit.#KYTRUCKER and MOBee Thank this. -
Gotta be able to compete with the Megas paying in the 65-70 cpm range imo.
blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
I figured if I bought a second truck not to do cpm if I'm offering home every other day off weekends. Wouldnt be that many miles to offer cpm. So I'm kinda stuck in the wanting to add a truck an I dispatch theyd be dealing with me directly and not knowing exactly what to pay them for that type of driving. Maybe 1500?

It would be w2 of course. So as long as you didn't screw up 1400 a week free health ins to the driver home every other day off weekends and I don't care if you have a pet with you. Been trying to figure it out on paper an it sounded great. Maybe I just have to go back an rethink this idea lol.

Sounds to me like a pretty decent deal, especially if you take care of your driver. After almost 20 years out here, respect, and nice safe equipment goes a long way for me. Money is a factor for sure, but the older I get a work life balance is just as important, seems more than fair to me, but I’m only familiar with local wages here in central Florida where I live, that would be a good wage for local work here.

So tell us more about how you’re able to offer health insurance without charging the employee.
