Rock. Stone. It's still such a lie it should be added to the 3 great lies.

Hello! I am a resident of MA. Am starting a company working with large slabs of solid wood. I will be transporting large loads. I will be driving a Dodge 3500 dually. I am wondering how much weight I can carry on the vehicle, and how much can I pull. Do I need a CDL class A license? The truck has a GVWR of 7158. Do I need to stop at weigh stations? I grabbed this description online... "Other minor changes in store for the 2012 Ram 3500's with the Max Tow package now get a 22,750 lb maximum trailer weight rating and up to 30,000 lb Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR)." Does this mean, my total vehicle and trailer weight with cargo max can be up to 30,000?

He's a safety guy. They get hired in the good times to satisfy a requirement, and they're the first to go during the bad times. They don't actually know anything. More of a "facade" than anything of substance, really.

    Exactly!
Most safety departments could more accurately be called compliance departments, as they have largely bought into the bureaucratic mindset that compliance=safety.

Most of what they preach regarding operations are ideas to reduce liability, not necessarily to improve driver performance. The whole Stone In The Stream idea , for example, massively increases a driver's workload everywhere except in areas of high interchange density. Very few have any grasp of the Dynamics involved in handling a big truck.

Although sadly, that last sentence could be applied to a whole lot of truck drivers too.

What is that anyway? Or was it in the thread and I just glazed over it?

If there's three lanes, you belong in the middle one, even if you can't match traffic speed

Oh God, F'that. Same people with a sticker on their trailer telling you not to pass on the right while they run 62 in the middle. Like seriously? The right is my favorite place to pass!! And what difference does it make anyway? It's not like you're looking in your mirrors. Cell phone is much more interesting.

Anyways, off my soapbox. Just ran from Dallas to San Antonio, so I'm a lil salty right now about "stones in the stream"...
