Another reason I started this thread is because I've worked at three companies, and at every company I worked for there was always some older driver telling me that they had never found a better company to drive for. All three companies that I've worked for couldn't have been the best ones in the whole industry.pagan22 Thanks this.

It's about understanding the industry, and a driver's role in it. Truck driving is a pretty simple job, in terms of skillset. No formal education required, heck, they have computers doing a good part of the job. Getting realistic about it is accepting these facts. You aren't some college educated professional, you're a truck driver. You ARE a tool, to the company. Your job, your ONLY job, is to drive that truck when, where, and how it's owner tells you to do so.
This 'profession' is no place for prima donas. Sure, dispatchers will treat you like a tool, because that's what you are, to them. You will be treated like crap by everyone from a dropout forklift driver to the terminal manager, from the car passing and brake checking you, to the DOT cop at the weigh station.
To expect, much less, demand, anything else is ridiculously unrealistic. We, as drivers, are a dime a dozen. Get used to it. -
Good post. Glad I retired 2 years ago. Safe travels.
Rocks Thanks this. -
Yes there seems to be a rather fine line between a bad company and a good company, which makes me wonder with such small differences why more companies can't just put that little bit of extra effort into making it worthwhile to work for them.pagan22 Thanks this.
