im in an 08 freghtliner cascadia, and since i got in this truck, about 2 months ago, my cb has not worked... i have a cobra 29ltd. I was in a volvo before this truck and it worked great, i could get 5miles around my truck, five or take, right out the box, now im lucky to hear the guy sitting right next to me... it appears as tho the anttena on the driver side is not the orig one, that the previous driver replaced it, it does not look the same as the passanger side, and its bigger, and passing other cascadias it looks different, so im thinking maybe i need a new antenna, but i wanna no from you cb pros if this is all the problem is before i go buy a new one and still have the same problem. i dont want, or need my cb tweaked or tuned, id really like it back to how it was in the volvo.( without getting back into the volvo. )
    any suggestions?

I am not a CB Pro, But my advice is to find a CB SHOP that you can trust had have them check your system out!

see im trying not to go spend the money on a cb shop, i really dont think that its an actual cb issue, as cactus suggested it might be a bad connection or bad ground, and thats the other thing i was thinking, along with a bad antenna... im going to have some down time this afternoon, or over the weekend, i think im going take the wires apart and see if i cant find the problem, then ill consider lookin for a cb shop.
thanks to all for the advise, im still hoping someone can post some more possiable issues

    thanks again

with all connectivity problems that i think i might have i use the k.i.s.s. method....
start with the mic use your spare to see if that might fix it...
go to the back of the radio and up hook the coax look at the connection and check to see if the connector in the back is loose or moves... there should be no movement....
hook it back up and wiggle ir to see if that is a possibility while keying up or just in receive mode...
if you have an spare coax try hooking it up .....
lastly go to your mirror mount check connectivity ....if your mirors are black and it is on an external holder you might have to use sand paper to get the connection right....
then there is the good old antenna .....
if all above does not fix the deal then your done and down at the cb shop !

ok, cactus ill try as u have said as soon as i get a chance,
but i got to one of our shops and had them go to the freightliner and get be the proper antenna for a cascadia. got it, put it up and its alomost 90% better, however, iv noticed that when my regualr am/fm radio is on, and im listening to my music, sometime my cb static will go to the beat of the music, this truck, has in it a factory sub woofer under the bunk and noticed that it only happens when i the subs are kikin, sooooo bow im thinking i might have the bad ground problem???

also, on the cascadia the antennas are not mounted on the mirror, they are mounted on the side of the roof/sleeper area... im thinking getting to the wire is going to be more work then i first thought...
also, i just googled cascadiea antenna mounts and came across a few " problem with cascadia cb antenna " site... hmm...
thanks for the input everyone... im thinking ill be seeing a cb shop in the near future.. so would anyone know of a trust worthy antenna along my regular rout
atlanta ga, 75n to either Mi or 75 from atlanta to 71 in oh to youngstown and often 81n from tn to pa
i no that the TA in knoxville has a cb shop, anyone know anything about him?
and also i no the Petro in Carlisle Pa has one as well...

Here is something to note as well....
If you are using the coax that came with the truck it runs to a box that also goes to the radio......left(driverside) is your cb and right side is your am/fm
It is possible the box/coax is picking up noise from your radio....
simply disconnect the set coax but a new coax and run it yourself to the antennae .
    The noise should be gone....
