    You are correct it's called a door check.. you can buy it on Ebay alot cheaper than from Peterbilt

    It’s on a 579 if that matters. I might have to get a nut driver to keep handy. The stupid thing keeps loosening up and annoying me.

    I think it’s supposed to stop the door from swinging open too far and hitting the mirrors.

    It limits the travel of the door... basically it's a door stop
