2015 KW T880. All the lugs on the steer axle are about 2 treads below the outside face of the nut. Two lugs are 4 to 5 treads below the outside face of the nut. A co-worker says DOT will pass that if inspected. I say no way. Who's right ?

Lemme guess, steel rim off, alum on? From what you're describing (no picture), no way I'd run that down the road, don't care who said what...

I can't site a actual regulation. As long as its not broken, loose, or elongated holes it technically passes.

I will advise you darn sure want at minimum 3 threads exposed pasted nut.

MACK E-6 and kemosabi49 Thank this.

I can't get pictures, to many eyes. I got this truck from another shop so it may have had steel rims at one time. We've lost trailer tires in the past because
some people crank them down with a one inch air gun instead of using a torque wrench. I refused to pass the inspection for this truck. The shop foremen and I got into a 5 minute long piss*** contest over this and the trailer tires were part of my argument. In the end the shop foremen passed it and put his signature
    on it.

That was apparent, I was just backing you up and citing the actual reg that you stated you couldn’t cite. Giving you an assist, not throwing rocks.
