"Desperate fleets"? Aw, boo-hoo, serves them right for creating this mess. Isn't this a happy turn of events. So,,,who is going to drive these previously "totaled" trucks and what fly by night outfit would think this would be profitable, or even safe? Sounds like a ploy to get more money with inspections for law enforcement. I know( says some govt. bean counter), we'll price( tax) new trucks out of the budget of most, they'll be forced to buy old beaters, we inspect the heck out of them, WE WIN",,,those cruisers aren't free, you know. I think if anything, fleets will be forced to repair their old iron, and not resort to junkyards.

This is a surprise to anyone ?

    y’all
Must be super rich to have never gotten used parts for your cars or trucks from a salvage yard .

and salvage yards are High profit business

you typically pay $X for a vehicle and then sell the engine for 2X , got your money back and then some and the rest of the parts are all gravy .

richard kerns truck parts in Atlanta was the “Richard” that was mentioned in “the millionaire next door “ book

he was working at Nally Peterbilt and Nally towed in a wrecked truck and it got sold to a nearby salvage yard , then the next week a customer at Nally needed a used engine and the dealership sent Richard to pick up the used engine .
Turned out it was the engine from the wrecked truck they just sold to the salvage yard , and nally paid twice as much for the engine as the salvage yard paid for the entire truck .

the light bulb went off and he started his own salvage yard.

    I owned several Ford’s and it’s sad to see a LTL 9000 abandoned .

they were decades ahead of time with the wide cab.
Now every truck has the wide cab .

and their air ride on their cabovers was amazing . It was on all four corners , not just on the back .

Might have been the first air ride used on a cab .

Yeah the L9000 cab over was nice riding, but a bit unnerving at first. Like riding on a cloud compared to other cabovers

yeah, but just like the farmer that has a 1936 ford sedan with bullet holes shot all over it, on his property, they know what they got, and what prices they can demand.

junk, or salvage yard prices are cheaper than brand new, but only at times, not all the time, then comes availability of those parts on the property. supply and demand, supply and demand.

still a very viable source for good used parts.
