Why is it so hard to find good drivers?

That’s why everyone has different wants and needs in life. Not a one size fits all approach. Because I didn’t care about what I drove for 30 years I drive what and when I want now.

 

Who do you haul for if you don't mind? Seems like every company is hiring between 3 to 30+ drivers right now.

I was on the phone with Brandon actually yesterday I think, idk? I was asking if they could get me home a bit more often, seemed like a decent offer. He said he would talk to the other guy about it. I see your trucks in Livonia constantly, I am in there getting auto freight going to Chicago.

 

We haul heavy out of Roush and a good bit out of Manheim Detroit in Carleton off of I-275..

 

The driver quality has steadily declined over the past twenty years because the pay vs. time investment does not line up well with the earnings. Have watched the deterioration with absolute amazement. I used to think this would turn around for the better, it just seems to continue on forever.

 

I call BS on this part of your statement as it looks like a generalization that the carhaulers of today can’t compete with those of the past Good Old Days. I do agree with you that the pay has steadily declined vs other segments of trucking and yes there may be some less than desirable guys attempting to haul cars, but they generally don’t last. 34 years for me in trucking with only 10 in Carhaul, but I will put myself and numerous guys I have hauled cars with at Allied, Jack Cooper and currently Hansen and Adkins up against you and/or anyone else hauling cars 20 years ago. I do feel that it will take a substantial raise to get new blood in to this profession, specifically those that actually want to be a Carhauler. Why the hell would anyone do this job for less money than freight unless they really wanted to be a carhauler? I could still be holding a steering wheel at UPS for $40.50 and hour but no thank you. If a mediocre carhauler as myself can do this just think what a good carhauler could do. Lol

 

That’s for everyone across every industry except the billionaires in the political class. This will not end well but it will surely end.

 

I tend to agree the talent pool is pretty shallow. Car hauling isn't for everyone that's for sure.
