Im hoping someone can help me out or give me some direction. I'm 23-yrs old, and I live in Texas. I have my CDL and was driving for 3months OTR before I came off the road. I've been off the road for about 2 years now. Im wanting to get back on the road again, but no one will hire because they've all told me I was off the road for to long and I'm not a fresh student. I've tried to go back and get refresher courses, but all the schools in Texas want more than $1600.00 just for 40hrs. Anybody have any advice or has been through the same dilemma?

    Please help me out!!!

Less then a years driving experience? Been off the road & out of a truck for 2 years?

Go back to school. That is the only way your going to get hired! Now if you had 10 years driving experience, then quit for 2 years... That would be a different story!

I agree, 3 mos OTR and $2 will get you a cup of coffee. If you want back in a truck then you will have to get back in school.

You could go to a company that will school you and then take it out of your paycheck. We did.

Before you put the money out try to get some kind of a commitment from a couple of those companies that they have openings and will hire you if you take the refresher course .

Rick G, how would I go about doing that? Texas-NaNa, which company did you do that with?

Im trying to get back into flatbedding. I was driving for ATS out of St.Cloud, now I miss the flatbed rush badly!

Grab a truck stop book full of newbie companys and start calling them. You already have a CDL find someone to put you on a truck with a trainer after a road test.

I have to say it, but CR England has arefresher coarse for about $1G. But it is England, which is bad from what I have herd, but sometimes you have to go with the company that will give you a job...as I sent out 70 apllications & 70 followup calls, & only got 1 job offer from Werner!...well, I did chuckle at the England lady that wanted $1G to me to pay so I could work for them!

Wow, I've heard England is pretty good. I don't much about any other companies that aren't flatbed. I don't think I will pay someone to pay me... just rather go through school, and do it the right way.
