BAAAAAAloney, you won't make me, OR my cronies the smoking gun as to why this occupation is such a mess. I and many others, have 3 MILLION+ miles, without incident, and you know why, pal,,,we had the common sense make our OWN decisions, something most today push a button for. Several jobs were regulated with eld's or "tattletales", but most of my trucking was not by the book. Nope, nice try, but fatality rates comes down to ONE THING,,,the cell phone. Funny how multi car pileups , something I NEVER saw, and fatalities spiked just when they hit the scene. I rarely did drugs, as a regional driver, it wasn't needed, but it's no mystery why the OTR segment took a big hit after "DARE" came in, and never recovered. Naturally, I'm not advocating going back to drugged drivers, but again, no mystery as to who did that years ago, something I wanted no part of.Last edited: Mar 17, 2022

Yeah, no. Sorry but fatalities have declined steadily. Part of it is vehicles are better designed and safer now. Idk about actual ACCIDENT rates, but deaths are down. Those pileups did happen, just unless you were in the area or it was something spectacular, you didn't hear about them. Now anyone can send a video to someone on the otherside of the world in literally seconds.

Of course you can keep driving, as long as your trying to find a safe haven to park. If it takes 1000 more miles to do it, make sure you notate that on your elog. Also if you're a company driver, make sure you explain that to safety.alds, supergreatguy, Coffey and 3 others Thank this.

Study questions whether FMCSA’s ELD mandate for truckers ‘has improved safety’
The researchers also report an increase in violations for unsafe driver behaviors – including speeding, frequent lane changes, following too closely and hard braking – in conjunction with the mandate.
“These results call into question whether increased electronic monitoring has improved safety in this industry,” the researchers write.
After publishing the final rule in December 2015, FMCSA estimated the mandate would help prevent 1,844 crashes, 562 injuries and 26 fatalities each year.
“Drivers have reacted in ways the FMCSA has not fully anticipated, and these behaviors should be accounted for as the FMCSA revisits their hours-of-service policies,” Andrew Balthrop, study co-author and research associate at UA, said in a press release.
“Surprisingly, the number of accidents for the most affected carriers – those operators for whom the federal mandate was intended – did not decrease. In fact, following the implementation of the mandate, accidents among small carriers and independent owner-operators increased, relative to large asset-based carriers.” -
As someone on here said before I stole it: cut those foreigners some slack. They were only in a motor vehicle twice before they got a CDL and one of those was riding in the trunk of a taxi.Hammer166 and LoneRanger Thank this.
