I just used my phone's hotspot.
Works fine enough for a console you'll be over a 100 ping even if wired so whatever.
Can just tether it to the console itself for slightly better connection / charging.
Lifesaver on those heb warehouses. Play a few games of MLB the show and you are done before you know it.
Don't know if the PS5 can do it but my PS3 could do it. So I don't see why not.

For those who have found decent internet options for gaming: how’s the latency compared to tether off of a Verizon phone hotspot?
-
Bouncing a signal between/through 3 devices takes longer in both directions.
Thus, using your phone as a hotspot is worse than getting a dedicated mobile hotspot.
And the unlimited data plans for phones are not usually unlimited when it is used as a hotspot. -

I just got a rash thinking about AWG and HEB...just throw in Kroger and you have the axis of evil.
Before I had a gaming laptop, I would pass the time at HEB in San Antonio by watching trucks destroy themselves on the yellow poles while trying to fit in some of those docks.TravR1, tallguy66 and motocross25 Thank this. -

If your signal is weak you can still get enough internet to connect on to your steam account and play something that's single player. -
I have an att unlimited hotspot; works great 90% of the time; if it’s getting deprioritized, I’ll tether off my phone. Sometimes the latency is better through my phone than the hotspot. For the very rare times where att is congested, I have a backup $20 T-Mobile plan on my tablet.
Wheeler Ridge, CA has att congestion during the day, but not a night. T-mobile was always acceptable.
My tv always stays on the hotspot; Netflix can usually play something even during congestion. I do any laptop downloads on the WiFi as well; I save my phone and tablet for online gaming.
I believe T-mobile currently has a $50 a month unlimited hotspot. Coverage might not be great as primary but I’d probably try it for the throughput. Get an att or Verizon plan as backup. idk if att or verizon have any unlimited hotspot offering.
Starlink is supposed to be stationary at your service address; I’ve read about people taking it on the road so who knows. I just got the email for it and including my deposit, it was about $640 for hardware and will be $110 a month. Whereas my hotspots were cheap refurbs off eBay and I’m paying about $45 per line (4 hotspots, 2 phones).
Edit: I’ve heard about RVs using this: Unlimited High-Speed 5G Home Internet Service Plans | T-Mobile 5G Home InternetLast edited: Mar 26, 2022

I just upgraded one of my lines to it, and it turns out to be $55 per month.
Maybe it is 50 with autopay?
Still, 100GB is a lot for the cost.
But I would keep streaming video at a medium resolution (data rate) so it does not get eaten up too fast.
0.4GB per hour goes a long way, while 1.7GB per hour does not.
