Use to be a red Raider dumptruck not far from home up on route 2, it was about 1/2 mile from where the silver bridge was. I kept putting off stopping and asking about it but never did. One day I went through and it was gone….,

I learned how to drive in a Raider that was an early seventies tri axle dump truck.

And then he bought a brand new Giant in 1985 or 86.

The Giant still runs every day and he still has the Raider but I don't know if he uses that still commercially.

At one point he had a Reo tractor that was not a Raider and he had another 10 wheel dump Reo that also was not a Raider.

The dump trucks had this crazy 7 Speed deep reduction transmission that you literally had to go through second gear to get to First.

There is a ready mix company that got a little crazy in the early ‘80’s and bought a few Diamond REO Giants with the Duetz aircooled diesel engines. Their was one surviver of that litter in a Truck salvage yard in southside San Antonio off of 1-35 next to the TNI yard 10 years ago with complete engine still intact. Yard has since been sold and cleaned out.
Strange truck and very strange dash layout. Lots of plastic even for those times.

Couple friends own these 2 trucks. The A model was taken down to a bare frame. All work done in his shop. Yes I had a hand in a few things…..
