So I've been a company driver since September 2021. I hear the real money is in owner Op.so I'll be looking into that eventually Can you just answer a question or two from here please? may seem like really dumb questions but I don't even know where I would start thanks :
1. Where do you buy your truck? Dealership? Or thru lease purchase in a freight company?
2. How much is an average down payment on a truck?
3. And most confusing for me: do you sign a contract with only 1 company to haul there freight only? Or do you look on trucker path and find an available load from any company?
Thanks
Oh and before you tell me I am too dumb to be an owner op, I'm not doing it anytime soon thanks lol

Prices are astronomical right now; try this route.

Right now is about the worst time I’ve ever seen to try and become an owner operator. Trucks are way over priced, the cost of routine maintenance is rising quickly, I usually run Michelin tires, couldn’t find a set of those anywhere, all tires have shot up in price, and rates are about to drop dramatically if you believe the industry “experts”.

Buy from anyone who is selling, pvt party or a dealer.
If you lease on to a co. you only haul their freight.
Downpymt if you buy, usually about 20%. -
I'm not trying to be a smart aleck. But don't believe everything you hear, I parked my truck and went to driving for somebody else. Hopefully things will straighten out. But I'm not going to hold my breath

I'd say step 1 is research.
Just 3 years after 2019’s trucking bloodbath, another is on the way
