The problem seems to be the plugs get hot and melt. If you could figure out a way to get rid of the plug on the outside of the cooler, that seems to be the problem child.

I use a small apt or bedroom frig and a inverter, 200 bucks all together

But the 120v refrigerators are real refrigerators, and cycle on and off, only as needed for the temperature, a thermoelectric 12 volt cooler draws power all the time it is plugged in.

i've got a small apt fridge, 60 bux at walmart. big inverter. I use it all the time and im too cheap to run the truck at night when i dont have to, its never killed the battery being on for 8 hours or so, i mean, full 10 hours.

I have an igloo one. had it for years works fine. I take it apart every 6 months or so and clean it, never had any issues. Also igloo stuff is made in the USA. (Katy Tx to be exact).

Dont waste your money on those 12volt coolers go spend $100 and buy a fridge at lowes or home depot and run it off a inveter. They are quite do not use much juice(could leave my truck off for 24hrs with the inverter on and the fridge going and not have a dead batt),keeps things the right temp and you can put more food in them.
Mine is 4yrs old and still going.

I had a Coleman for over 8 years, which I bought used and really do not know how old it was. But it finally gave up the ghost and I now have another Coleman which I have had for 18 months.

I use an engall 12v refrigerator. Mine is 35 qt & can maintain 5 below 0 if I want. This unit is expensive compared to 12v coolers. I paid 640 buck's for this plus shipping. I feel this was money well spent since I was going through 2 coleman's a year. This unit is designed to last # least 15 year's of use.
