Which companies do not make you team as part of training?

Sometimes the otr lifestyle is not a fit for family and marriages. I made 60k last year which is more then I would have made at allot of otr jobs anyways. Every time I hear a news report about trucking wages they talk about industry averages being 45k per year. Some of people don't want to live out of the back of a truck eating bad food anyways.

Some people can't hack life. I'm not afraid to work 2 or even 3 weeks without a day off. My record was 35 days on. I'm not ashamed of what I do or how much I make. I have my own challenges like snow and crappy farm driveways. I average 2 days off per month. I go home to my house, kids, and dog.

Some people are lazy some people can't drive a truck. I am neither, I love trucking and am not afraid to hustle. I consider that remark to be an insult to successful local drivers. If I can't handle anything is separation from wife and my kids.

 

How is that even remotely an insult to local drivers ‍♂️ Jesus put your big girl panties on

 

I thought you were saying that a local guy can't make in otr. It's not lack of ability, sometimes it's just a poor fit. Otr is a lifestyle not a job.

 

Every company is going to make you ''team'' with a trainer.
There really is no alternative...common sense.
Many, probably most companies will want you to team with a fellow newbie for a while after training.
I understand why they do it...I don't think it benefits the driver nearly as much as it does the company,
and my own experience with it was useless, unpleasant but thankfully brief. The guy lasted 4 days before he got himself fired...I was supposed to be stuck with this lazy moron for three months. But I was relieved of any further teaming obligation and went straight to solo. Never wished I had another rookie in my truck that's for sure.

 

That is simply not true because I went through training at a company that did not train in a team truck. No teaming ever and we hauled loads all over the country. It was all on me the way it should be. The company was Conway Truckload - now called CFI. There are companies that put the student with a trainer and the trainer and driver run the truck solo; meaning the trainer sits in the jump seat while the student drives. In my opinion its the best way to train a new driver. Putting a rookie in the driver seat with another rookie who has only 6 more in the seat than the student is ludicrous. No matter how you slice it.

 

Amen to that. You’re absolutely right. Seeing how many comments in this thread are ridiculing the original question that was posted - well - everyone of those folks should be ashamed of themselves. Someone wants to train the right way and not be “meat in the seat” for anyone including the company is NOT wrong. It’s smart. The idea that things that are BAD for everyone should keep happening because “that’s how it’s always been done” or “That’s how I did it son, buck up and just do it” is pure bull-@#$O. What a crock. Drivers need to start thinking. T-H-I-N-K-I-N-G instead of running their mouths and insulting people for caring about safety, whether its their own or someone else’s. I can’t believe people are this stupid to be honest. Trucking will NEVER change until the people who are actually backbone of it all start to THINK instead of just “go along”. Wake up people. YOU are valuable to these companies but you believe you’re not. WAKE UP! If a driver wants a real training experience you should be applauding that not insulting him and deriding them for it. Stupid people make stupid decisions. It’s sad. Trucking could be restored so easily to the respectable profession it really is IF drivers would stop acting like slaves who don’t have a choice and start realizing DRIVERS are the reason trucking exists in the first place!! Wake up.
