Depending on the state Progressive is writing about 60%+ of all new entrants. That being said we FINALLY have some insurance carriers willing to take on Progressive. Depending on the state we can have 3 or 4 options. The key with insurance agents is to ask some key questions - ie. what specific truck insurance training have you had? Do you have a direct dial number? How many people are on staff that know trucking insurance?

I had a new CDL but a paid for truck and trailer. Mine was 23k in Texas with Progressive and saved a significant discount for paying cash. Switched to great west after first year (they required at least 2 years driving large vehicles) which I have from years ago and saved some more money with them with better coverage.

Tough times right now with the cost of equipment. Think really really hard about purchasing newer truck with over 500k miles and emmisions equipment and no APU. Be methodical in your decisions.

No sense in walking out to a truck you hate every day, and personally I don’t need to look like a ####ing slob that doesn’t give a #### in a 10 different color truck with grey aluminums and body damage everywhere.

15k barely buys you a roller now, and you will have 80k into it by the time it’s been made reliable enough to run the road again, and I doubt you are making your money back on one load, because anything in that price range will need a rebuild, trans, frame rails etc.

and that’s coming from someone who drives a 1997 truck 4.5 days a week…. The only other option I would consider is brand new, then throw them away when it starts giving you problems, parts or payments, pick your poison because they come out within pennies of each other on the large scale

Disagree. I know people who have purchased $15k semis catching retiring drivers selling on Facebook who just want it gone and it needed no work. I personally know some dealerships to get many under $30k. Tons of mileage, but plan is to overhaul anyway so doesn’t matter as long as the body and electrical is good.

I know people who have done overhauls recently and so far the most expensive one spent around $25k but only paid $10k for the rig. $35k he has a “new” semi. Pricing is still good if you know where to look and don’t just buy from known dealerships like that ohio place.

If you haven’t done this your advice useless. It’s kinda like telling me how to make investments but you haven’t started investing yet.

Because the engine is the only thing that wears out. Please just stop talking.

OP, may not help, and I'm not sure it makes any difference. I started in May with zero driving experience, but a 20+ year CDL. Progressive was almost 15k for me. Truck, trailer, 1 mil liability and 100k cargo. Good luck

Oh yeah because if I know drivers who have done it and so I’m going to follow their formula, I shouldn’t tell anyone else about having common sense. I guess it makes more sense to go out and pay $200k for a truck that if rates drop you can’t pay for. Yeah, that makes much more sense than only investing $15-50k. I guess if you spend $200k, you won’t ever have to pay for repairs and maintenance. It’s a 1 time fee, right?

And in case you didn’t know, most authors of those investing books and financial books didn’t get rich until they wrote the book. Does that make the advice any less accurate? You think football coaches can throw 80 yards? Oh my how do they even coach?!
