It's how you figure it out in your head, apparently, but the wording in the regs is the way kylefitzy and I describe it. How you may look at it, is how cke and you describe it. It depends on your viewpoint, apparently of how you can remember it.

Like kylefitzy says, I look at the whole weight needing to be secured, divide it by 2 to come to the total WLL needed to secure it. Then it's a simple matter of adding the WLL of how I secure it, to achieve the required amount of WLL needed. Either way, it takes calculations of how to get it, and if doubling it makes it work for you, great. I prefer to stay with the written reference definition. :)

Why does everybody always say that? I do it all the time. I can dump my air bags and they don’t come close to touching the tires. I probably wouldn’t do it on a spring ride though lol.

Some trailers they will absolutely get into the tire. I’ve seen them destroy outside tires before. Usually it’s not an issue, especially on newer equipment it seems.

If I dump my rear axle loaded, it'll get within 1.5" of the rear tire, and too close for comfort on the front. I can't have winches anywhere near them.

I don't dare put winches over the tires. I've taken out a tire in a turn before. Never again. I carry a bunch of 2" with me now.

It varies with trailer, my reitenour wont do a winch above tire loaded, but ive run an eagle 2 that even air dumped and full weight on it, tire never came close to winch
