Semi crashes into back of School Bus

Didn't Werner just get approval to allow permit holders to drive without a cdl holder in the passenger seat? Feel like events like this will be happening more frequently now.

Reminds me of when a Crete truck rear ended a van with kids in Florida that was stopped behind a school bus. Lots of people died from lack of attention.

Chicago-Toronto-Montreal is a heavily populated lane. Seen them on 401 across Onterrible.

 

They’re pretty much everywhere nowadays. See them as far south as Florida.

 

I'd have to see the geographical situation here before I blame the truck. All too often I see school buses stopped in front of people's houses on blind turns and over hills with no sight.

Buses should not be able to just stop wherever they want. Especially on state highways. I also see them throw that stop sign out with total disregard of surrounding traffic conditions.

 

In some cases there’s responsibility on both sides. Yes some stops are poorly planned, I see it, I spend a lot of time on 2 lane. But for a professional driver? Come on, they’re predictable, you should know wherever you are when you stand a good chance of encountering one. And if the sight lines are that bad why would you be going too fast to stop your truck anytime, much less than when you know a bus may be there. If one pulls in front of you, well the laws of physics say you’re driving through it and there’s nothing you can do about it. But one stopped on the road with flashers going. No excuse.

 

That is what happened on the fatal Crete accident in Florida. Driver was on a 2 lane back road that went into a town and crest a hill only to see a school bus stopped with a van of kids right behind it. The fault tho was still with the driver cause he was doing full highway speed on the backroad and instead of turning the wheel to put it in the grass just panicked and locked the breaks before slamming into the minivan and pancaking it up into the bus.

 

I watched a potential situation unfold recently where the driver would of had to drive through house walls to avoid the collision. The bus was stopped over a hill on the down grade. One lane each direction. 35 mph speed limit. The driver threw on their lights and opened the stop sign with no warning. She didn't even let two of us heading the opposite direction get by first. I couldn't help but notice that could have been a very ugly situation if a truck were to come over that hill. The bus shouldn't have been allowed to stop there at all.
