Yes, my research has shown that the combination gets better cleaner welds than just flux alone, but...flux is best for field environments and rusty material if you're not hauling gas. So perfect for steel while on the road. :)

That's a nice weld by the way. :)

By the way, I've gone and done it again..filled out an app to see about getting back, so we'll see how it goes. I just realized while filling out the app that I have to renew my documents this year... :( DOT Physical and TWIC / Hazmat security check before the end of May, and Hazmat and Driver's license before bday. Under the gun again. :(

Lol depends on what exact engine. But sure.

Most series 60 will rev above 3000 rpm before it starts to eat itself.

Prep work is important for quality, but so is the hours of practice, and the level of hand/eye/ear coordination ;-) Interesting machine. More power than I expected, in a small package.

Dual shield (flux+gas) is some of the smoothest running stuff there is, but outside, with even less than a breeze, it loses it's appeal. Nice looking weld btw...

Thanks. Hopefully now that we're more or less setup in the new place I'll get some more practice. Our new welder knows his stuff, fella's barely older than me and he lays down welds that look like he's been at it 40 years.

We've been at the house all week, not getting much done. Looking at a few places to move the truck to and try to set things up a little better but mostly eating and drinking beer. So here's some truck porn to brighten the day...
