Yep, but of couse, like you said the duty cycle would be the pain, but...honestly, I don't have any projects that would entail 1/2", but have watched some of the heavy duty steel welding techniques like the one you mention, so yeah a little aware but not sure that it'll be called on at the moment. :) Like the video I watched about how to weld up stream...hopefully, I don't need to, but at least I'm aware it can be done and a little of the technique required, but..like you point out, the practice will be needed...for the forseeable future, I plan to not be welding upstream unless absolutely necessary. :)

Give it a whirl welding uphill. You'll get the hang of it pretty quick, it seems like it'd be harder than it is, and the first few tries will probably suck... But like anything, the more you practice, the easier it gets. You shouldn't weld anything structural down hill. Just sticking things together it doesn't matter too much, but if there's any stress on it, go up... not down.

Pit owner came in this afternoon raaaaaging. Went to pick up some 15w40 5gal; don't have it can't get it maybe 55gal $1,000ish plus freight. Ran out of wire last night welding; $330 for a 33# spool of hardfacing and $170 for ER70S.
Like getting kicked right in the twins.

[edit: he said one of the places he went, and has always paid cash, asked if he wanted a credit app. That's not a good sign!]

It’s been one of them weeks— me and Uncle Jack just might have a long conversation

What that song really should do is make you want to joint the Swiss Guard and defend the Pope in the Vatican City.

People making crusade themed videos using that song haven't listened to the lyrics.
