I LOVE the east coast. Houses are still affordable, its laid back, good summers. You couldn't pay me enough to live in quebec or Ontario. Quebec because inwas just too stupid and lazy to learn the language when I was young, it's a beautiful province with beautiful women... but I cant do french and you really cant teach an old dog new tricks.
Now Ontariio. Hell no. Rude arrogant egotistical people who think the world ends at their door step. Lol. At least it seems that way...
Now that said, I hate winter and could easily spend november to april in Marathon Florida. Just have to figure out how to fund it...

I haven't gone that way in a while. The wife wants to do a trip to Alaska, rent a jeep and drive up some summer.... other than that I wont be back out there unless it pays $$$$$AModelCat and Another Canadian driver Thank this.

Sounds like he’s perfectly suited to hauling train loads of swamp weight from Ft Norman in to Norman Wells. No traffic or population density problems there. And he’d only have to chain up once a year.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

It’s a nice ride across the grass now. When I started running west the first 4 lane I saw in 2 days started out by Richer and ended just west of the Headingly Jail access road. Then there was another 10mi or so at PlaP then it was 267 times back and forth over that ####ing rail line. Another chunk of 4 lane from White City around the south side of Regina. Then more level crossings to Medicine Hat. Chunk of 4 there but only from west of the Dunmore scale to the north side of the coulee. Then the 4 lane started again west of the big bend at Chestermere. 4 lane out to Banff and you know what’s west of there. Was a different trip in those days.anondriverne and Another Canadian driver Thank this.

Those states are actually on my list before going to Canada, I haven't posted on that yet.
I'm also reading a lot of threads here and on City-Data.com which is useful, besides local subReddits for news and views on places.
I did think about the West but not sure on that one, and Idaho/Montana seem like the closest "Western equivalent" to what I like.
I don't idealize the country and a lot of what you said applies to America as well in my experience. I also don't like the vax situation which should be free choice, we'll see how that narrative continues to play out. Some people are turning to trucking so they can live in the truck/hotel because they lost a place to live because of the economy, I'm in a similar situation. It "solves" both the job and house problem until you can get on your feet again.
This is interesting, some people don't need much and can survive or work with what they got.
It's like a bad trucking job is very bad for a first timer, but to someone with experience of many bad jobs it's the "best of the worst", or they have another take on the situation.Elroythekid, ProfessionalNoticer and Another Canadian driver Thank this. -
No crime in Canada? I was in the Husky in Lloydminster one night when the RCMP chased a couple of truck thieves into the truck stop and found them in the restroom. "They'll never find us in here"

Yea, the liberal media is pretty wild in their fantasies. I remember when MSNBC did a story on FREE medication for all in Canada, and illegal crossings from the US into Canada tripled for a few months, before it was redacted. I remember when weed was legalized, that some news sources reported it was also FREE lol, that was....interesting.
Crime in Canada is surpassing many states in the US, esp when it comes to fraud, stabbings and sexual assault.reeferwrencher, Another Canadian driver and JC1971 Thank this. -
I've used City Data extensively while researching places to relocate many times over the years. It's a great resource. They even have an entire section for demographics that is the ultimate tool when it comes to decision making time.Last edited: Apr 5, 2022

I see you mentioned the vax situation it’s worse over here in Canada also border requires it to cross .. expect a huge pay cut if you move to Canada with a higher cost of living plus much higher taxes.. myself I’d move to Idaho in a heartbeat if I was allowed or Montana ..

Idaho has a milder climate than Montana.
Lewiston/Clarkson area on Snake River (abbreviated LC Valley)
has an average temperature of 32F during the winter months.
The surrounding lakes or the river don't freeze in the winter.
No gators or other nasty creatures.
Just racoons, skunks, squirrels, rats and snakes.
And the usual mammals that can be met around 45-46 degrees latitude North.
There is a paper plant in the area and
sometimes there is a strong smell, depending on the wind.
It's more like a Nature's fart. Friendly people and sheriff staff.
You don't #### with them, they don't #### with you.BigHossVolvo and anondriverne Thank this.
