You need a ton of oil to be worth it in my opinion
I use around 1500 gallons/year at the shop but I don’t like to be cold or eat exhaust so one can probably get by with 1000 for a 40x60 that’s not the best insulation and in central il.
the house uses around 750
Also straight 15-40 can be troublesome to burn it works much better with 20 percent or more hydraulic oil
Also kinda a messy operation and when people bring you oil it’s got everything but the kitchen sink in it
Good filtering is key to not having problems when you need heat

All you need is an interstate authority and to fill out their form every few years or so to be eligible. No way would I spend a dime in NE if they extorted tax money from my business.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Wow! Today I went to my local Walmart to buy oil and they were out of Rotella and Delvac. I usually get a 5 gallon bucket of conventional oil for $64 at Walmart. Went to Cumberland truck parts for the oil. $112 for the same thing!Rideandrepair, Last Call and God prefers Diesels Thank this.

You can get small models now. Heat your garage. Then if it's an attached garage, install a screen door. Then leave door open and heat the house aswell....for free.....ish.Rideandrepair and God prefers Diesels Thank this.

I do the same
I don’t have a shop where I am now so getting things done by a shop is what I do
I look at it like this. If I can make more money in a day than what a shop would charge me then it’s the shop
If it would take me a day dicking around getting everything together and saves me $200. I’d rather run my truck and take that $200 out of my pay and never get dirty and still have beer money left over
I get. Doing it yourself you know it’s done but I sorta watch the shops anyway when I can. Or go over what was done
Bolt on stuff. I’ll do that most timesLast edited: Apr 8, 2022

Just sounds like excuses. You can change the oil anywhere and you don't need a shop. A big piece of cardboard will catch any splatter. I can get it done in an hour if I hustle but I usually take my time, there's no hurry. I don't know how many thousands I've kept in my pocket the past 10+ years of doing it.Badmon, SL3406, Swine hauler and 7 others Thank this.

Don't even need that cardboard if you park right over the storm drain at the TA. It's a one stop shop.
Badmon, Swine hauler, ProfessionalNoticer and 5 others Thank this. -
