Mentoring

How many foreign languages do you speak? How do you plan on communicating with students whose grasp of English is tenuous at best?

My Dad was a Trainer for 10 yrs. He truly enjoyed passing on his knowledge, and helping someone better themselves. He was pretty laid back. Very Patient. He was good at it. I cringe sometimes while watching a Trainer spotting the Trainee at a Truckstop. Some are waiving they’re arms, Giving bad direction. Acting frustrated all stressed out. They obviously aren’t qualified to be Training. Teaching ability is a gift. Students have enough anxiety, a stressed out Trainer is more of a problem than a help. Attitude is everything. • Knowledgeable
• A good problem solver
• Passionate
• Patience
• Willingness to allow others to make mistakes, explain & then help them understand the “why” in a respectful & calm manner.
• Easy to talk to or come to with questions/concerns/advice.

 

My mentor did that sometimes, but he got left and right mixed up.
It frustrated both of us at times, but we would end up laughing about it.

He was full of useful information, and was dedicated to teaching me the right way of doing things.
He was a mentor that actually liked teaching his skills and knowledge.

During training he went on home time.
He brought me into his home and introduced me to his wife, we had a nice dinner and I slept in the spare room.
A far cry from many that would make the student sleep in the truck with nothing; he made me family.

I think Kevin is the singular reason why I have succeeded in this profession.

Industry needs more women mentors on this site alone you see many threads about waiting for one to be available so they can train..

 

Not that many women coming in to the industry in the first place.
How many of those are becoming mentors?
