I like and agree with all of that, except for the being available 24/7. If they’re with me on the truck, that’s one thing, but if they’re no longer with me, I need to be reasonable too. My getting adequate rest matters for safe operation of the CMV.

I haven’t read all the thread but I’ll just say at 3 yrs it’s commendable but your just now finding your footing.
My question… do you know how to throw chains? If not… keep learning yourself and revisit this idea.
I was mentored by my Dad and if he missed one shift in 2000 miles he would cuss up a storm for atleast 5 mins. The expectation was extremely HIGH. There was no room for error.Another Canadian driver and Boondock Thank this. -

To me what separates the boys from men or girls from women is the ability to take care of yourself and get the job done. Nowadays, it’s easy to sit in the seat and drive, but difficult to take control of the situation and get the job done.
You gotta remember, in the old days there was no power steering, air conditioning, or all that much heat. Having that mindset of a brotherhood saved lives. I understand it’s not the old days but let’s still try and train for it because Mother Nature knows no gender or experience.
I have the old lanterns that you would hang on the rear of your trailer as a tail light. Each time you stopped you’d have to relight it so people could see you.
