On my coverage, it states that refrigeration units MUST be inspected monthly. Records must be kept.
I inspect my unit before every trip. Is that enough? What if something does break down along the way?
Do you need to pay a couple hundred every month for the unit to be inspected, so insurance can cover the cargo if something goes wrong?
Thermo King charges that much for inspection, close to $400. You can probably find it cheaper somewhere by paying $100 per month. But who does that?
I'm going through the exclusions:
If cargo is stolen if unattended, the insurance won't cover it. What if you park over the weekend and go home? Or go to the hotel to stay overnight. Why would anyone even exclude it? If you carry Great West insurance, do you have similar Cargo exclusions?

Most reefer cargo requires you to be parked in a secure location.
Reefer breakdown they want to know that the unit is being maintained by qualified people. Enough years of you working on them qualifies you. -
I would suggest asking your agent what for qualifications they want to see before assuming you looking it over will be good enough. After that if they say you looking it over isn't good enough for them I'd suggest finding a local shop who'll cut you a better deal on monthly inspections.

Do you have similar exclusions?

Look for a manufacturer's monthly inspection checklist, ask if it's acceptable.

Your agent is the only person that can answer your questions correctly/accurately. Otherwise, you're gambling over the potential for a very expensive claim to not get paid.
