It’s got 195 thermostats in it. Should run somewhere between there and 200. If it’s not running under enough load to keep it warmed up it may overcool a bit on the road and run as cold as 180 or 185. Depends on ambient temp.

My E Model always showed 175 until I hit a good hill loaded, then it would heat up. Had to change thermostats and now it runs bout 150!!‍♂️

It will run enhanced fuel trying to warm itself up until 160. How much fuel are you trying to burn? That should have a 190 or 195 thermostat in it. If it runs below 200 under load it’s over-cooling. Ask Cat what temp your ecm trips the fan at. You may be surprised.

Mine rides around 190-200 empty. 200-215 loaded and will kick the fan on in traffic or on hills when it's above 85 degrees Fahrenheit

That one’s working right. From the first of the 3406’s on we couldn’t get any fuel mileage out of them until we backed the screws out until we got them running 200 at cruise load. Bit of a balancing act to keep the fan off with the 208 fan stat on them. My 5EK and BXS train-tractor engines all run 210-215 at cruise loaded and they’ll hit 230 on long grades. Cat should have stopped at the 3406E. You can make the first couple of Serials of the Acerts run, but they’re more of a pia than the E’s.

I have a C15 single turbo MBN. Driving on flat loaded 22k threw IL the temp will fluctuate from 190-205 degrees. Then I was parked on slight hill sleeping and it was 57-60 degrees out side, my water temp shot up to 217 degrees fan kicked on woke me up. Was left scratching my head should I be worried?

Probably just wasn’t getting enough air over the rad for one reason or other and it warmed up. 216-218 somewhere is where you should get your fan.
