Best local CDL companies to work for

Why y'all wanna get a CDL, but then be home all day fresh out is beyond me. Get out there and earn your stripes.

 

Yep. Trucking is not the 9-5 you need to hit the house every night to take care of your issues there. Even most gravy train local jobs will be 10-12 hrs a day.

 

I would have to say Florida area does have some decent companies offering company driver positions.

 

Maybe because he has a child with disabilities. That's a pretty good incentive to try to get a good local job and be home

 

I was local when I first started out. Ran in the SF Bay Area where alot of OTR drivers refuse to go. I think I earned my strips. I'm doing OTR now and local is alot tougher driving.

OP look into dirt hauling. They generally take new drivers. The pay isn't bad and it's generally easy work. After a year start talking to fuel delivery companies. Most say two years required but I got in after only one year and so did others I worked with. It's not hard work but you do need a good back. 12h shift and since it's slip seat you are usually off at the same time each day.

Another option is a cement driver. Here in UT it pays $30 with ot. Just make sure they stay busy in the winter. In summer they can get 20-30 hours of ot in a week.

Fed-ex contractors pay pretty good but you have to be careful. Some are solo but many are team. You might go back to the same terminal at the end of the day but not have enough time to go home.

Local is sometimes more vicious than the road. The distractions at home can definitely keep you fatigued instead of immediately getting in the bed.
