LMAO! You crack me up! To each his own but if they did pay that great - we would all be after those jobs. Money is not the only reason I want to be a truck driver... :biggrin_25525:

I met with them for general orientation.

I got a call two days latter telling me to show up. I met with a guy and explained why I wanted the program. He at first did not want to give it to me because I had made too much money in the past.

Two days later I went in took some basic tests...fractions ect.

Got my info and was in school the following Monday.

And I did not even have to blow anything up! lol

I just think that you do not want anyone to get into trucking...period.

Every post I look at, there you are with a negative comment.

I have never seen you post one thing positive!

It must really aggravate you when people do not listen to your gloom and doom!

There are positives to this industry, even if you have to start at a bottom feeder company. You may not like it, but all of the hardships that we are going to endure, are worth it to a lot of us.

Wrong . They will be worth it to very few . I guess you don't read the posts by all the trainers telling of how few stay with it . You wannabes just keep cutting each others' throats . The job losses continue to increase by several thousand each month while the number of graduates increases . I guess wannabes aren't very good at math .

So you are saying that no one that gets into trucking today is going to make it. That we are all going to fall by the wayside because we can not hack it?
I have read many posts by guys and girls who have made it and are very happy with their careers.
I have a question, you quote 2 Timothy. Do you have that up there because you are referring to The Sound Doctrine Of Jesus Christ, or are you referring to the sound doctrine of Rick G?

Do you deny several thousand jobs are eliminated in the industry every month ? I guess no matter how many times I post it you'll choose to remain blind .
    http://www.askthetrucker.com/tag/job-loss/
Note that it says these only reflect losses in the for hire section , not losses in private fleets .

    And freight ?
    http://www.retailerdaily.com/entry/45061/freight-transportation-services-index-update/
So less freight , increasing job losses . What explanation do you have for the bottom feeders continually hiring ?
How many drivers does U.S. Xpress have ? The same number they had a year ago .

I don't know how you figure things but the way I do math if they had 5898 drivers in September 2008 and 5898 drivers in December 2009 and hired hundreds of trainees during that time the number of people no longer with them equals the number of trainees they hired .
I can't wait to hear your response .

Because talking to people like you is useless . My posts aren't for your benefit . They are to show people with common sense the true state of the industry and how little chance grads have of success . The history of U.S. Xpress clearly shows despite all the hiring they have done the number of trucks and drivers stays the same . Just cycling newbies through the same jobs . Some carriers like Werner have less trucks than they had a year ago despite constant hiring . They hire hundreds but the number of drivers never increases .

I don't think it really matters what industry you are in, there's always turnover. With today's economy, only the companies that have prepared themselves and/or can quickly adapt to the failing market will make it. Others will either fall by the wayside or come away with huge market share loss.

    Truckinfo.net:
How big is the trucking industry?
The trucking companies, warehouses and private sector in the U.S. employs an estimated 8.9 million people employed in trucking-related jobs; nearly 3.5 million were truck drivers. Of this figure UPS employs 60,000 workers and 9% are owner operators. LTL shippers account for around 13.6 percent of America's trucking sector.

So - if there are 3.5 million truck drivers and 8.9 million trucking related jobs, the kind of job losses RickG talks about are actually quite good compared to manufacturing job losses, tech job losses, etc. At least an experienced truck driver with a good dac can find work in a reasonable amount of time, unlike a number of pipefitters and electricians I know.

But what about newbie with bad DAC ? Have you seen the reasons newbies get fired with a bad DAC ?
1 dinged a container with no damage . 2 brushed a mirror of a truck parked next to them , again no damage . Bottom feeders are always looking for team drivers to work for trainee pay . Once they finish training the carrier looks for someone to get rid of to be replaced by another trainee .
More and more carriers are saying lease or team , take it or leave it . Neither option is very desirable . Very few last at either one .
