Yup. When I see drivers and the wings are crushed, I know they are over doing it.

The best way to learn to back is to find a couple of customized Pete’s parked close together with one space between them in Chicago and start backing. :D

Mack E-6, your right, A buddy of mine owns tree service company had the one guy pull the chipper behind his pick up truck jackknife took out the corner panel. Anyone that wants to learn how to back up good has to just keep practicing ,they can do it.

TooTiredToTalk and MACK E-6 Thank this.

You’ve got to train yourself with just a few fundamentals. If you’re confused about your position or steering movement just repeat “turn towards the problem”. So if your trailer is problematic on the left your turn your wheel left.

second, slow movements and creep speed.

third, since you’re doing reefer you’re probably on a lot of pavement. Use the old tire marks as guidance for set up.

Doing a lot of intermodal work, I had to back up 3-6 times a day is all types of set ups. People honking, hearing people set brakes gets you pretty good fast. You either figure it out or you’re stuck with your thumb in your butt.

I run a 40’ down town CHICAGO all day. If you don’t know what your doing, and fast, your in trouble. Backing will come natural as time goes by. Trust me, as on the job experience, it’s just a matter of time .

Yesterday, ran across a dock, no dock plate, flat. I lower my lift gate, then brought it up as high as it would go. and it was a 12” too low, my lift gate. Now what do you do??? I slid my axle’s all the way back, that brought me up just enough to get my pallet jack over the lip plate.
We have to think about it, when me are delivering freight. What to do too make things work. Same with backing, practice on the job experience. It will come naturally.
